Visual e
Imaging and Optional Barcode Recognition
To create a Document Scanning and
Retrieval System, Visual e provides
the necessary functions and concepts to address any document management
system. The system comes in two versions: 1) seamless integration
with a multivalue database. 2) PC version containing it's own database
management system for indexing and retrieving scanned images.
Using TWAIN compatible scanners in
conjunction with the
Visual e
Internet Client gives all multivalued
database systems the ability to scan, store,
and retrieve documents. Once a document is retrieved, it can be viewed,
printed, e-mailed, or faxed using multivalued data basic programs
developed with the
Visual e
Application Development System.
Basic scanning, e-mailing, and faxing are part of the standard Visual
e suite of
products.
Our experience has shown that many multivalue database system users require the ability to store and retrieve
documents quickly when they are related to records stored within the database. For
example, trucking companies frequently need to retrieve a bill of lading
proving that the delivery of the goods was made, how many items were
received, and who signed for the shipment. Some systems of the type
mentioned have been developed at great expense—some
starting at $30,000—using non-multivalued software
such as Visual
Basic. The linking of documents to the multivalued database is usually
accomplished manually or through a download of information.
Using the
Visual
e
Internet Client
and The
Application Developer, companies are
provided a seamless connection between the Windows environment and multivalued database systems. In an effort to keep development cost down,
companies are given the control of developing custom applications which
meet their document and Windows processing needs. This is precisely what the
Visual
e
Suite of products
is all about. Larger organizations with their own programming
staff can use this approach to solve any
document-imaging needs they experience.
The objectives of this
development can be summarized as follows:
· Provide
a seamless connection between Windows and the multivalued database system
or standalone.
· Acquire documents through any TWAIN compatible scanner.
· Display
any image alongside of database record information.
· Find
a barcode anywhere on the document and use it for creating automatic
indexes.
· Fax
any scanned document to requester with the
Visual
e
Faxing module.
· E-mail
any scanned document to requester with the
Visual
e
E-mail module.
· Print
any scanned document.
This module will
help a company achieve as close to a “paperless” environment as possible for all
its multivalue database users. This
results in higher productivity, improved
customer satisfaction, and in many cases a reduced cost when reissuing the product.
Additionally, the initial development cost is much less with this approach.
But the largest return is in meeting expedient future maintenance needs.
Summary
If a company has document or barcode
label tracking needs that relate to the multivalue database or another business application, this should be the
single solution
of choice. Customers using the
Visual
e
product have testified that
Visual
e is the most cost effective product on the market today.
